“Hunger Games” Holds Top Box Office Spot

At home, “Krampus” received a “B-” CinemaScore from typically tough-grading horror fans, in line with the critics who have placed the film at 65 percent positive on Rotten Tomatoes. Overseas, it also dominated with $32.4 million, putting its foreign total at $296.8 million. Difference is, after two weekends Cars 2 had already racked up $117.2 million while Good Dinosaur now sits at just $75.9 million, and that’s including two extra days thanks to its Wednesday release. At $227.1 million in total gross, it is still likely a box office smash, but still the least-performing entry in the series. The movie has reached $121 million, but it will be unable to reach the $150 million plateau.

Krampus was not expected to be a huge box office hit, let alone knock Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur off its perch, but that’s exactly what has happened. The film brought in $15.54 million in it’s second week and continues to generate excellent buzz heading into awards season. We shall see how well the film holds up throughout December. The movie has now grossed $523 million worldwide. Off 58%, the Daniel Craig film has earned $184.5 million in domestic sales and an additional $607 million from foreign markets. The Seth Rogen-Joseph Gordon-Levitt Christmas comedy The Night Before is holding steady three weeks into its run with $31.9 million overall, while the heavily touted cast of The Secret in Their Eyes (with Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor) narrowly made the top 10 with $1.95 million. The film was budgeted at $25 million. “Spectre, ” $23 million.3.

“Part 2” cast member Willow Shields at the premiere. The latest James Bond adventure has earned $US184.5 million. It was directed by Michael Dougherty (“Trick ‘r Treat”) and had been projected to pull in between $10 million and $13 million. Last year, Mockingjay Part 1 earned $57 million over the long weekend and then fell 61% the following weekend, earning $22 million. Its overseas weekend take was $34.9M, lifting its global total to $55.4.

Domestic revenue last weekend was up sharply, or 27 percent, from the same weekend a year ago.
