Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
Sure, it sets the protagonist up to deal with one last important twist, which is (to be fair) handled cleverly and dramatically in Mockingjay – Part 2, but the impact of the film as a whole is irreparably damaged. However, if Mockingjay Part 2 does just a little bit above the average of the franchise’s first three films, The Hunger Games be as high as sixth all-time, above Spider-Man (five films, $1.578B) and below the six-film J.R.R. Tolkien franchise ($1.846).

The symbolism is done well in MOCKING JAY PART 2, but it isn’t with such a heavy hand that the visually cinematic art, action joie de vivre or the essence of the characters is lost in the making.
As reported by Comingsoon.Net, the final installment of “The Hunger Games” franchise was disappointment, especially in comparison to the previous movies of the franchise.
At once a victor in and subverter of the Hunger Games, former media darling Katniss has become the symbol of the revolution being led by rebel President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) and establishment turncoat Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman). But they wouldn’t be alone.
End of an era: Liam Hemsworth posted a touching snap on Friday of the close stars hugging their goodbyes, which he captioned: ‘Sad this #MockingjayPart2 journey has come to an end’.
“I want to get back to my roots, back to indies, where I started”, Lawrence told Vogue in a recent interview.
The natural beauty looked more exhausted than usual, but that’s not surprising after she revealed yesterday that she only managed one night of sleep – aboard an aircraft – as she has jetted from China, to Spain, Germany, London and repeatedly coast to coast in the U.S. “So there’s an elephant on my chest”. “I take full responsibility for that one”, he said with a laugh.
In the franchise’s four instalments Lawrence’s character Katniss has metamorphosed from a disarmed 16-year-old trying to save herself into a reluctant rebel hero and now, finally, into a fierce leader. “It’s nice to regain my freedom and move on to the next thing”. The book isn’t as tight or as splashy as The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and many of its concepts are harder to grasp. He’d like to take advantage of Peeta’s vulnerability, but finds Katniss too troubled by Peeta’s pathetic fate to give him her wholehearted love. By blending political concepts such as dictatorship and siege, and putting them together with strong female and male characters, Generation Y learns about societal issues from the film without even realizing that they are learning.
Jennifer Lawrence’s performance is still excellent, showing Katniss’s weariness, fragility and emotional shut-down in equal measure.
She said goodbye to her co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth on Friday morning apparently in NY, after appearing on Conan – which is filmed on the West Coast. However, a last-minute rule change negates the first, and the duo hatches a plan to eat poison berries rather than fight each other to the death. Ms. Lawrence now inhabits the role as effortlessly as breathing, partly because, like all great stars, she seems to be playing a version of her “real” self. And while YA lit may be starting to break away from a “dominant mode” model, Hollywood is still stuck in it. As a result, it’s infatuated with John Green and the “Greenlit” genre, making The Hunger Games feel more like a nostalgic favorite than something we should be completely obsessed with right now.
When Suzanne Collins wrote Mockingjay, she effectively shut the door to any possible sequels.
“I would love to play in the sandbox with [Marvel]”, she says. When Mags dies in the arena and Finnick says goodbye, hearts break in unison.
Part 2 picks up exactly where Part 1 left off-immediately opening with a shot of Katniss’s bruised neck.
