“Hunger Games” tops box office for fourth straight week

As most people walked out of the theater following the completion of Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2, they figured it was the end of their adventures watching Katniss Everdeen. I signed on to these projects when I was 20 years old.

The final Hunger Games movie of the current quadrilogy, Mockingjay – Part 2, retained top spot at the United States box office this weekend to take its global total to $564.5m (£373m). While Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said last week that the studio was working on new films in the franchise that could include prequels and spin-offs, Lawrence has said she isn’t interested in coming back right now.

Lionsgate has not officially announced any spin-off from the franchise, which is based on Suzanne Collins’ highly successful trilogy of dystopian novels in which adolescent children battle each other to the death in a post-apocalyptic America dubbed Panem.

On the calm weekend before the Star Wars storm, The Hunger Games remained in first place – but just barely. It didn’t for a while and I didn’t think it would ever sink in, but it has now.
