On the forecast track, the center of Hermine will move over the Atlantic waters, with the potential to regain strength later this weekend.

Hermine was upgraded to a hurricane on Thursday, making landfall in Florida early Friday. A tropical storm watch extends all the way north to Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Duke Energy did report a few power outages in the area.
Hermine rose up over the Gulf of Mexico and became the first hurricane to hit Florida in more than a decade, wiping away beachside buildings, toppling trees onto homes and leaving hundreds of thousands without electricity as it plowed onward to the Atlantic Coast.
Forecasters expect Hermine to slow to a crawl and pivot toward the northwest over the next 24 hours, after which it may sit and spin just off the coast of New Jersey or DE for days.
Life and vacation are starting to resume on Atlantic Beach after Tropical Storm Hermine passed through Friday night into Saturday morning. “We have two boats in the boat house, and I hope they’re still there”, she said. “The most pressing issue this morning will become the possibly risky storm surge in the Hampton Bays area of Virginia”, he said.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, Hermine was centered just off North Carolina’s Outer Banks, with top sustained winds of 65 miles per hour (100 kph), moving east-northeast at 15 miles per hour (24 kph). The last hurricane to make landfall in the United States was Arthur in 2014 in North Carolina.
A resident in Tampa, Florida, points back to his home as he speaks with law enforcement officers surveying damage associated with Hurricane Hermine, which made landfall overnight on September 2, 2016. “At present, expect heavy surf, up to 1.5” of rainfall and high winds for coastal areas Sun-Mon.
Tyrrell County Sheriff Darryl Liverman told the Virginian-Pilot that high winds tipped over an 18-wheeler, killing its driver and shutting down the USA 64 bridge.
Governor Pat McCrory had issued a State of Emergency Declaration for the 33 eastern North Carolina counties ahead of the storm “to facilitate the movement of any resources that may be needed to respond to and recover from the storm”.
“We know that this is a changing situation”.
Dominion officials say crews are working to restore power outages caused by the storm.
“We’re going to have a prolonged northeasterly flow causing storm surges, beach erosion and possible coastal flooding”, Buccola said.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo activated the state’s Emergency Operations Center. The fast movement helped to shorten the time of prolonged heavy rain and damaging winds over the area. In New York, beaches are closed on Sunday, and Maryland has already declared a state of emergency.
