Hurricanes 4, Oilers 1

Edmonton forward Nail Yakupov sustained what appeared to be a leg injury after he got tangled up with an official and fell to the ice in the Oilers’ 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes in Carolina.

Jordan Staal, Elias Lindholm, Jeff Skinner, and Andrej Nestrasil fueled the Hurricanes offense and goaltender Cam Ward earned the win, turning away 30 pucks throughout.

Left winger Benoit Pouliot scored for the Oilers (7-14-1), who’ve won only once in a six-game span.

Carolina improved to 2-2-4 in its last eight by winning for the second time in three games. Ward has started 15 games this season and has a 6-6-3 record with a. 902 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average.

Oilers’ forward Nail Yakupov, who got his 100th career point in the first period, left with an injury to his lower body during the second period and did not return.

“We showed really good poise and maturity with that two-goal lead”, Peters said.
