Hurricanes acquire Teravainen, Bickell from Blackhawks
The Carolina Hurricanes, striking a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks for the second year in a row, on Wednesday acquired forwards Teuvo Teravainen and Bryan Bickell.

But in the end the ‘Hawks got Bickell off the books entirely, though it did cost them a good young talent in Teravainen, who had 13 goals and 35 points in 78 games past year – his first full National Hockey League campaign.
“We are relieved that a trade was finally completed”, Bickell’s agent, Todd Diamond, said in a statement.
He spent time both as a bottom-six defensive stopper and as a fill-in among the top six forwards, giving Joel Quenneville a great deal of flexibility through the final stages of the season. The 5-foot-11, 178-pound Teravainen raised the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2015, earning 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 18 games during Chicago’s playoff run. A member of the 2013 and 2015 Stanley Cup Championship teams, he was the Blackhawks second-round selection (41 overall) in the 2004 NHL Draft.
Panik appeared in 30 games with the Blackhawks last season after Chicago acquired the left-handed winger from Toronto in exchange for Jeremy Morin in January.
A year ago, the Canes obtained forwards Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom from the Blackhawks in a September 11 trade. He tallied two assists in 25 games with the Blackhawks and recorded 15 goals and 16 assists in 47 games in Rockford. “Both players were drafted by our organization and developed to play important roles on Stanley Cup championship teams”.
From the ‘Canes perspective, this is a very nice move from GM Ron Francis, who had an excess of draft picks at his disposal thanks to deadline deals for Eric Staal, Kris Versteeg and John-Michael Liles.

“We wish them the best as they continue their careers with Carolina”.
