Hurriyat men may lose security cover in Jammu and Kashmir

“Referring to Hurriyat Conference (HC) leaders” yesterday’s refusal to meet the All-Party-Delegation (APD), which is on a two-day visit to ease the volatile situation in Kashmir, Mr Singh said this was neither “Kashmriyat” nor “Insaniyat”(Humanity).

The all party delegation that visited the state recently met at New Delhi to assess the situation and also chalk out a strategy for the future.

Yechury spoke a day after some leaders from the all-party delegation of MPs, who had gone to meet separatist leaders, were snubbed.

During the meetings, which is being chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the delegates further suggested isolating the Kashmiri separatist leaders for their continued anti-India stand. “When someone goes for talks and they reject it, it is not “jamhooriyat” (democracy) as well”, he said.

They discussed ways to handle the situation, besides firming up the talking points for Wednesday’s meeting with the members of the all-party delegation.

Cutting across party lines, leaders said that they were hopeful of finding a solution for restoration of peace in the Valley which has been in the grip of violent protests that left left 71 persons dead and scores of others injured. The government reiterated there will be no compromise on national sovereignty. The situation of unrest has emerged in the Valley from past 59 days now since the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in Anantnag sector of Srinagar on July 8.

He described the attempt as “ice breaking” and hoped it will continue with “some constructive steps being taken by the state and the central government”.

Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti letter to separatist leaders requesting them to meet the delegation simply cut no ice.

“The government must also take suggestions from all political parties in Jammu and Kashmir”, he said.

The delegation returned to Delhi on Monday after paying a two day visit to the state.

Rajnath Singh said “everybody in Kashmir wants peace and normalcy to return”.

“Do not take it outside the country”, he said.

Many JKNPP activists led by party chief Harsh Dev Singh staged a demonstration near the Press Club here dubbing the development as an “affront to the political leadership of Jammu region”.

Later in the evening, the Home Minister addressed the media in Jammu also.

It was also emphasised that rehabilitation of released/surrendered militants is also very important for which the Government already has a scheme.

Both the Mirwaiz and Mr. Malik, who were pro-dialogue in the past and for a triangular dialogue, if not a tripartite one that stresses on the direct involvement of Pakistan at the table, have made a decision to rally behind Mr. Geelani’s position that India has to first prove its sincerity to resolve the Kashmir issue by accepting its disputed nature in publicly.
