When Google announced a do-it-yourself virtual reality kit made of cardboard at its I/O developer conference this week, one of the first questions people asked was: Is this a big joke?

We already knew OnePlus was launching its second handset, the OnePlus 2, with a virtual reality angle. The cost will depend on where you live, but as an example if you are in the U.S.it will set you back $5, while those in the United Kingdom will have to cough up £5.

OnePlus is onboard with Google’s Cardboard idea and is willing to give the low-priced VR accessories away for free, though it’s not willing to pay for shipping. OnePlus, the company behind the flagship killer OnePlus One, plans to launch the successor to their phone on July 27, via virtual reality.

The firm has added an exclusive web page for the Cardboard VR Headset, which provides detailed information about the headset to the users. While, Google Cardboard will cost you more bucks, OnePlus VR Headset is as pocket friendly as it can get.

OnePlus 2 is expected to have only a few design tweaks like a metal frame with black matte finish, and sport a similar design to its predecessor.

A year ago Google at its I/O showed us the cardboard and the world was pretty amused with it but there were also talks of the potential this might have in the coming times. Google Cardboard gained popularity because of its cheaper price, the material used (i.e. cardboard) and the kind of experience it delivered in a pocket friendly manner. In fact, we are losing money with each one.
