‘Hurt’ Kompany eager for trophy

Kompany added: “It is easy to talk about the good times, but it is the bad times that make you strong – and our fans have been through things that supporters of other clubs would only have nightmares about”.

The eventual winners had a number of chances throughout and although it may have been frustrating at times, Kompany was ecstatic as the Manchester club lifted their fifth trophy since 2011.

“I play for a club that has big expectations and one of those expectations is for me to immediately start putting in performances that are worthy of this team”, says the Belgian, who has been plagued by calf problems.

“We are six points behind the leaders in the Premier League and we will continue to fight to the end – this could give us a lot of trust if we are successful on Sunday”.

TWO cars crashed on the M6 this morning – one full of Liverpool fans and one with Manchester City fans, all on their way to the match.

“I don’t think you can compare them because they are a different type of player but both very good”. What I think this team will be remembered as is the team that brought success back to Manchester City.

“Maybe it is forgotten that when I came to City the club wasn’t in a great place and had not won anything since 1976”. Winning a second division play-off was the biggest thing that many of our fans had seen.

‘We were there when the rebirth of Manchester City began. We left everything out on the pitch.

“And the thing I learned is that some people mistake trophies for history”. But Manchester City isn’t a new club.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is still hurting from his side’s failure to win a trophy last season as they bid to take out the League Cup.

“It’s not the best way (to win), it’s the most unfair way”, said the Belgian on Sky Sports.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini is hoping the central defensive partnership between Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi will give City an important boost as they enter the business end of the season. And City have in recent seasons seldom been at their best against today’s Captial One Cup final opponents Liverpool – or indeed any big team. That’s why I respect every cup so much.

Kompany played only nine minutes in three months before making his comeback against Tottenham a fortnight ago, a period which saw them concede four goals at home to Liverpool and three against Leicester City. But when you go to Wembley you want to play a 50:50 game against a team like Liverpool.
