Huskers back in the Top 25 for the first time since 2014

After the game it was noted that Troy Dye did not play against Nebraska.

Beathard had three TD passes for Iowa (2-1).

“We’ve got a whole new team, a new quarterback, a bunch of young people playing”, said Carrington, who leads the Ducks with 11 catches for 176 yards.

OR coach Mark Helfrich discussed his team’s 35-32 loss to Nebraska on Saturday, and the self-inflicted wounds that led to it. Freeman suffered an apparent leg injury and didn’t return for the second half.

Armstrong also has been given more freedom as a runner, and scored the game-winning touchdown against OR on a 34-yard quarterback draw.

After a four-yard run by Armstrong on the ensuing play, the senior quarterback from Cibolo, Texas, broke free for a 34-yard touchdown gallop that gave the Big Red a 35-32 win. He hobbled off the field early in the game, and was seen with an ice pack on his leg. His 1-yard carry capped a 97-yard drive, but the two-point conversion failed.

The Oregon team his Huskers will face is not quite as imposing. That was especially the case on Oregon’s final drive. QB Dakota Prukop and the Oregon Ducks hit the road in the hope of remaining unbeaten in today’s game. The Ducks were flagged 13 times for 126 yards. Losing their Heisman hopeful Royce Freeman to injury early in the game, the OR running back depth has overcome in a big way on Saturday.

The defense’s ability to do that wasn’t very clear after the Ducks’ second drive of the game. If a particular matchup was there, OR would go for two in unconventional times.

De’Mornay Pierson-El was the answer.

OR running back Tony Brooks-James (20) scores a touchdown over Nebraska cornerback Joshua Kalu (10) during the first half of an NCAA college football game in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016. We doubled up on them (scoring at the end of the half and beginning of the second half), which is a goal of ours.

Nebraska wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp (1) catches a touchdown pass over OR defensive back Reggie Daniels (8) during the first half of an NCAA college football game in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016.

The previous NCAA record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass was 69 by Texas Tech from September 23, 2006, to October 22, 2011. The Huskers stuck with its traditional extra point, and Oregon’s lead was cut to 20-14 at half. But the Hawkeyes ran for just 34 yards on 25 carries.

Riley lost his last seven meetings against the Ducks, who went 80-14, won four conference titles and played in two national championship games from 2008-14. On the next play, Charles Nelson gashed Nebraska with a 50-yard touchdown. On their first drive in the fourth, OR ran in a touchdown from 1 yard out. Dakota Prukop transferred as a graduate student after a huge 2015 season at Montana State and is off to a fast start with the Ducks.

To date, he has 7,376 career passing yards, and will most likely break the record for completions, passing touchdowns and total offense at some point this season. It was the longest streak of its kind in NCAA history.

NEBRASKA: This win should be enough to push the unbeaten Huskers into the Top 25 – a place they haven’t been since December 2014.
