Hyderabad: In-laws burn pregnant daughter-in-law to death after priest predicts baby girl

The in-laws of a pregnant woman in Andhra Pradesh allegedly tried to set her on fire after an astrologer predicted that she would give birth to a girl child. Police said that T Girija, 28, who is married to T Srinivasulu, a tenant farmer, had past year given birth to a daughter due to which she was facing harassment. Police have arrested the Nellore resident’s husband and father-in-law and are on the lookout for her mother-in-law. She has suffered 30% burns and is yet to recover. The police is checking what kind of acid was used to kill the Girija.

According to reports, T Srinivasulu married N Girija in August 14, 2014.

The police came to know about the incident on August 26, after which they registered a case of attempt to murder against the victim’s in-laws. When she recently became pregnant again, her mother-in-law took her to an astrologer to determine the sex of the child.

But the desire of a baby boy was so high that on August 20 Lakshmi attempted to set Girija on fire after pouring acid and kerosene on her stomach while she was sleeping.

She was rescued by the local people and was rushed to a hospital. Reportedly, when the incident took place her husband Srinivasulu was not at home.
