Hyderabad varsity teachers slam Smriti Irani
Student groups protesting in the University of Hyderabad over the suicide of a Dalit research scholar termed as “highly insulting” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in which he described Rohith Vemula as “Bharat Mata’s son”. The issue also took a political turn with allegations that the extreme action was a result of discrimination against Dalit students after Dattatreya had written a letter to Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani seeking action against their “anti-national acts”. Expressing their displeasure towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, the bereaved family has now sought answers from the government asking why it took them five days to revert to them.

A medical check-up was carried out on the fasting students this morning and the blood pressure of some of them was found varying, Zuhail said.
But we can’t celebrate it because Rohith is not there. “You should tell the Dalits, the community involved and the parents what action you are taking”, Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakan said.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that on one hand he is happy to see India’s rise in the 21st century, as a nation full of youthful energy, with youthful dreams and youthful resolve.
The university had announced a compensation of Rs 8 lakh to the family yesterday, which the family declined to accept. In reply to the university’s offer, Neelima said, “Not Rs 8 lakh”.
Demanding justice for Rohith Vemula, seven students of the Hyderabad University went on an indefinite hunger strike on Sunday.
“Based on its observations and findings, the ministry has made a decision to constitute a judicial commission to review the entire sequence of events and the circumstances; and to establish the facts and correctives in the context of the university”. The committee gave its report today.
Meanwhile, ABVP leader Nandanam Susheel Kumar, who is named as an accused in the case of abetting suicide of Rohith, demanded a “fair” inquiry into the incident and denied that he had lied about being manhandled by Rohith and other students of Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA) on August 3 a year ago. “We can’t even understand the language you are using…if the extraordinary situation goes away, will it (extraordinary situation) come back”, Zuhail said.
