Ko missed a 5-foot birdie putt on the third extra hole, sending the three back to the 18th tee.
“I didn’t have the greatest first hole missing the fairway”, Ko said, “and I was struggling all the way there, but made a few good birdies on the front nine”.
“It was hard to just see so many putts just slip by”, Ko said. But I feel like, you know, it’s coming around and I’m doing my best to keep my head up. She rolled in three birdies and only totaled one bogey in the second round to finish with a 69.
World number two Brooke Henderson sits one shot ahead of Ko while US Open victor Brittany Lang and Swede Anna Norquist, who lost the US Open playoff, both began the tournament with opening round 70s.
Lee shot a 65, bogeying the 18th after making birdies on Nos.
“I played really solid today”, Lewis said.
“It was hard playing in the swirling wind, but I had good communication with my caddie, so my shots were good”. The long-hitting Thai player won three straight events in May.
“Just target the middle of the green”, she said.
Celebrating her 21st birthday, Kim had four birdies in a six-hole stretch on her second nine at rain-softened Highland Meadows. She has 11 runner-up finishes during the drought and 24 overall. Its definitely been a while since Ive felt like this, but it was worth the wait..
Kim shot a sizzling seven-under 64 to surge to 15-under, three clear of Ko and the third member of the final group, American Alison Lee.
American Brittany Lang, victor of last week’s US Women’s Open, slipped nine behind with a 68. Nordqvist also was 3 under after a 70. The Australian secured a two-year exemption and a spot in the PGA Championship, but not the Masters.

The four-time all-Mid-American Conference honoree most enjoyed seeing the people rooting for her all the way from an on-campus send-off to her final hole. He chipped to within 5 feet, but Baddeley closed it out before Woo finished.
