Global maritime port operator DP World said Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with USA -based Hyperloop One to explore the role of innovation in the future of world trade.

The feasibility study will look into the possibility of Hyperloop technology to improve the efficiency, profitability and sustainability of DP World’s Jebel Ali port in Dubai. Dubai has the “the infrastructure, regulatory movement and kind of capital in place needed” to make it happen, Hyperloop One CEO Rob Lloyd said to TechCrunch.

“By testing the Hyperloop technology at Jebel Ali for cargo use, we’re taking a first step in exploring new ways of enabling trade and underlining Dubai’s commitment to innovation”.

Hyperloop One is developing the world’s first Hyperloop, an elegant, integrated structure to move passengers and cargo between two points safely, efficiently and sustainably.

If a Hyperloop feasibility study in the Port Jebel Ali seaport in Dubai pans out, potential velocities of up to hundreds of miles per hour could give a new significance to the term “rapid transport”.

“The Hyperloop is an excellent example of positive future change and growth”.

The partnership will conduct a feasibility study to investigate the business case, route options and cost to build and operate the system.

“It is an innovative solution that holds tremendous potential for enhancing our operational efficiencies and ensuring smoother and faster trade flows”.

The co-founder who presented Hyperloop at the World Government Summit in Dubai in February, Brogan Bambrogan, has resigned and is now suing the company he helped to form.

DP World is a leading enabler of global trade and an integral part of the supply chain.

If cargo is directed to a new inland hub, there will be additional space freed at Jebel Ali for profitable use.

We’ve discussed it before, the Hyperloop is one of the most exciting opportunities occuring in logistics and transportation. “A Hyperloop system fits very seamlessly with existing transportation corridors, minimising any impact on urban Dubai and reducing freeway congestion and emissions”.
