Hyundai Genesis Coupe bows out, successor to be sold under Genesis brand

Hyundai has always been a budget friendly company known for its low and mid range cars. The V-8-powered G80 5.0, which costs $55,500 (just $700 more than last year’s Hyundai Genesis 5.0), comes only as a fully loaded model with the Ultimate package, and also gains 19-inch wheels and quad exhausts to set it apart visually. While the Genesis G80 is slightly more expensive that the Hyundai Genesis now, it is still cheaper than its rivals like Audi and BMW.

Hyundai’s new luxury sedan will start at $41,400.

The company presumably hopes its premium maintenance program will attract buyers at a higher price than the G80 carried when it was adorned with Hyundai badging. Step up to the all-wheel-drive version and you’ll be paying an extra $2,500 for a total of $43,900.

The successor is expected to ride on the rear-wheel-drive platform that will underpin the planned Genesis G70 small sedan. However, if you take a closer look, it is easy to know that the new generation model has some fantastic features and safety add-ons making it worth the pricing. It allows you to readily control the media.

A Premium package, which costs $4,750, adds LED fog lights, a 14-speaker Lexicon surround sound system, parking sensors, ventilated front seats, and a power tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof.

If the base model’s 311 horsepower and 292 lb feet of torque sounds meager, buyers can upgrade to a 5.0-liter V8 engine to get a cool 420 horsepower coupled with 383 lb feet of torque. In addition to this package is the Ultimate Package, which adds in premium leather seating, matte-finish wood and aluminum trim, a heads-up display, a 9.2-inch touchscreen with navigation, a power trunk lid, a 17-speaker audio system, and more for another $4,200 on top of the Premium Package.
