The company says in government documents that the computer circuit board in the power steering control unit can become damaged.

All the sedans affected are from the 2011 model year version of the Sonata.

With a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Good thing is, no one’s been hurt. says NHTSA is unaware of any crashes or injuries related to this issue.

The only problem was that the warranty claims being made due to issues with the steering wheels were so many that the company had to look into the issue with some degree of seriousness. Investigators found the circuit boards could fail over time when exposed to the environment.
