Hyundai Revealed The “Vision G” Concept Coupe

Clearly hinting at what a future Hyundai luxury sports vehicle could look like, the Vision G is powered by the award winning Tau V8 engine.

Hyundai has underlined its ambition to make a splash in the global premium auto market by unveiling the Hyundai Vision G coupe concept at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California.

Under the hood of the Vision G is a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 420 horsepower at 519 Nm of torque. For Hyundai, that word means “respectful luxury” in this context, luxury that doesn’t need to shout and be in your face in order to be noticed.

“After all-and if all is right in the world-the only time an owner sees the exterior of the auto is when it’s standing still”, said Christopher Chapman, head of Hyundai’s US design center and leader of the coupe’s design team. Buoyed by what it considers a positive experience with those products-the second-generation Genesis sedan in particular has been quite well received-Hyundai appears poised to expand the top of its range.

We’ll have more details regarding the Hyundai Vision G as soon as they are available. Step inside and you’ll find elegant premium leather seats, seasoned with wood trim and gold accents here and there. The dashboard is dominated by a digital gauge cluster and a wide, curved LCD infotainment screen, an industry first.

According to Hyundai-Kia design honcho, Peter Schreyer, the Vision G Coupe Concept emphasises the notion of “chivalry” in that said vehicle should incorporate understated design elements as to portray a simple, timeless outlook.

The cabin also features a redesigned interior, with an emphasis on subtle luxury. (The cut-line for the cargo area suggests that it is a hatchback.) Indeed, squint a little and you can nearly imagine the Vision G rendered as a five-door, a la the Audi A7. Hyundai is trying to make a bold statement with the new concept, and there’s really no better place to do it than with the giants of the automotive world at Pebble Beach.
