Hyundai reveals US-spec Elantra with 1.4 turbo engine

The front fascia integrates front wheel “air curtains” to minimize drag and turbulence and, along with underbody cladding and the shape of the bodywork, result in a pretty low 0.27 drag coefficient.

Featured prominently on the front end of the Elantra’s new design is Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille accented with new lighting including available HID headlights with Dynamic Bending Lights and unique vertical LED daytime running lights, both of which are firsts for the model.

The passenger compartment of the new Elantra has a more upscale look and feel complemented by richer trim and additional soft-touch surfaces. There is also an upcoming Elantra Eco which would manage 35mpg.

On the technology front, the new Elantra introduces several class-above features including segment-exclusive hands-free Smart Trunk opener and an integrated memory system for the power driver’s seat/outside mirrors.

The Elantra Eco is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter Kappa GDI that has an output of 128 HP and 156 lb-ft (211 Nm) of torque from 1,400-3,700 rpm.

Watch for Australian details on the new Elantra to come in the months ahead.

The new 2017 Hyundai Elantra will be coming in with a 2.0 liter four cylinder engine that will be delivering about 147hp and 132lb ft of torque. Exclusively teamed with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, it’s expected to earn a 35-mpg combined mark.

The sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra has debuted at the 2015 L.A. Auto Show, sporting a new, more upscale design and all-new efficient powertrains. Measuring 20 mm longer and 25 mm wider, the new Elantra is not only lighter, but has a stiffer body structure thanks to the usage of Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS). In addition to providing better crash/impact protection, that extra robustness complements the Elantra’s redesigned suspension in a way Hyundai says improves the ride, handling and stability.

Expect pricing information on the 2017 Hyundai Elantra to be announced closer to the model’s launch early next year. Additional available safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist (that can “apply corrective steering assistance if necessary”) and a rearview camera.
