Debuting last summer, I Am Cait broke ground with its subject matter, following former Olympian – then Bruce Jenner – through his transition to becoming a transgender woman, Caitlyn.

After two seasons on the air, “I am Cait” has officially ended.

In a tweet, Jenner wrote, “After 2 awesome seasons… it’s time for the next adventure”. The season 2 premiere was watched by just 745,000 people, which was a series low at the time.

“There just weren’t enough viewers”, a production insider told Radar. ‘The show can’t compete with other programming’.

E! released a statement shortly afterwards saying that “no decision had been made” at that time regarding the future of the show.

The show followed Caitlyn’s life after her very public gender tradition.

The source also said that another reason that the show was cancelled was that the transgender community did not embrace Jenner as producers had hoped. Network docu-series “I Am Cait” will not return for a third season. The cast featured many prominent transgender activists, including Jennifer Finney Boylan, Candis Cayne, Chandi Moore, Zackary Drucker, and Kate Bornstein. “Trans viewers did not see her as one of them”.
