In a world of neverending winter where demons rise to smite the population, you’ll follow the story of an unnamed mercenary and the courageous, young Setsuna, who must sacrifice herself for the sake of her kin. For Tokyo RPG’s debut, though, Hashimoto-san’s RPG “aims to capture the narrative depth, impactful storytelling and masterful character development inspired by the golden era of Japanese role-playing games and bring them to current hardware and technology”. Let’s hope the Western ports demand the same level of praise.

I Am Setsuan is scheduled for release in the west this Summer on PlayStation 4 and Steam.
While I Am Setsuna will be its own game and the battle system will have to be heavily modernized to compete in today’s market, the comparison to Chrono Trigger will certainly raise people’s expectations for Tokyo RPG Factory’s first shot at revitalizing the JRPG market. A press release from SE says Setsuna will use a battle system similar to the lauded ’90s classic RPG, Chrono Trigger.

In Japan, I Am Setsuna was also announced for PS Vita. Now all we need is for the entire Final Fantasy line to make its “original versions only” releases for Steam and Square Enix might be one of the more PC progressive Japanese publishers out there.
