Ahead of the eighth BRICS summit to be held in Panaji, Goa on 16 and 17 October, the government will conduct a five-day film festival in Delhi, where four movies each from BRICS nations will be screened.
“The BRICS film festival is an initiative announced by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Russian Federation during the last BRICS summit”, senior Indian minister Venkaiah Naidu told a press conference. “The theme of India’s BRICS chairmanship is building responsive, inclusive and collective solutions”, Naidu said at the poster launch at the National Media Centre here.
“In addition to this, the festival will be an opportunity for cultural exchange through cinema, culture and cuisine”. Four films from each of the participating four countries would be screened at the summit.
At the end, the jury will decide the Best Film, Best Actors in male and female artists, and Best director from the list of movies screened at the festival.
BRICS is a grouping of five large emerging economies-Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Films will be judged by an eminent jury comprising one noted film maker of each member country.
Twenty films will be screened during the festival being organised by the directorate of film festivals of India’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Apart from Veeram, India will showcase S.S. Rajamouli directed Baahubali- The Beginning, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone-starrer Bajirao Mastani, Kaushik Ganguly directed Cinemawala and Raam Reddy directed Thithi.
