I can resign as Manchester United manager – Van Gaal
“That is something I speak to Ed Woodward [about] by himself – not with you”.

Speaking about his future after the match, Van Gaal stated that he could resign willingly if he has to. “It is not always the club that has to fire or sack me”. “I feel the support of my players and my board”.
United, down to sixth in the Premier League, face struggling champions Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday and few would be surprised if Van Gaal was no longer in charge.
Van Gaal’s saltiness with the media was on exhibit earlier this week, as well, when he walked out of a news conference on Wednesday after complaining of false reports published in England that said he had already been sacked and replaced by Jose Mourinho, the recently fired Chelsea manager. “I have to deal with that, but much more important is that the players have to deal with that because they have to perform”.
Van Gaal stormed out of his pre-match press conference in Manchester due to the speculation about his position, but he dismissed the suggestion that the pressure was getting to him. “I am not so interested in public sayings”.
“It is very hard as I’m also part of four losses and I have to cope with that and I have to manage that”.
United have lost four games in succession in all competitions for the first time since 1996 and gone seven games without victory for the first time since the 1989-90 season.
“The circumstances now play a bigger role and will in the next game also. I have said to my players at half-time that we had nothing to lose and then you can cope better with that and you have seen that in the second half, but it was not good enough”. The 64-year-old admitted his players froze when he needed them the most.
Louis Van Gaal leaves the pitch as Man United lost again. “From our point of view a team without Wayne Rooney is a team that maybe isn’t quite as strong, but maybe he wasn’t fit enough to start”, the Stoke manager said.
“We are delighted we’ve been able to do it again”.
