I didn’t think pneumonia diagnosis was ‘that big a deal’: Clinton

They’ve got 40 years of my tax returns, tens of thousands of emails, a detailed medical letter report, all kinds of personal details – and, you know, it’s just so unusual that, with all of that information out there, as soon as it became clear I couldn’t power through, we said what was going on. Clinton later said she regretted applying that description to “half” of Trump’s backers, but stuck by her assertion that the GOP nominee has given a platform to “hateful views and voices”.

The Democratic presidential candidate said in an interview on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that she felt dizzy and “did lose my balance”, while waiting for the motorcade.

Those concerns are now unavoidable, made real by Clinton’s abrupt departure Sunday from a 9/11 anniversary ceremony and a video showing the Democratic nominee staggering and eventually slumping forward before being held up by three people as she was helped into a van.

Her campaign initially said she had been taken to her daughter’s NY flat after feeling “overheated”. Her doctor later revealed she was diagnosed with pneumonia Friday.

Trump, a 70-year-old NY businessman, has made no secret of his affinity for fast food, sometimes sharing photos of himself on his campaign jet or at Trump Tower enjoying fried chicken, hamburgers and a taco bowl.

Mrs Clinton’s communications director has admitted the campaign “could have done better” managing the incident.

Speaking in Maryland on Monday, Trump said he was shocked to hear Clinton “attack, slander, smear and demean these wonderful, awesome people”.

He pledged to release the results of a medical examination he took over the past week, with “very, very specific numbers”. She was then driven to her home in suburban Chappaqua, New York.

The health problem was the latest blow for Clinton at a time when Trump has erased most of her lead in national opinion polls and is competitive again in many battleground states where the November 8 election is likely to be decided. “And obviously that didn’t work out so well”, she said.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks to the National Guard Association of the United States, Sept. 12, 2016, in Baltimore. I don’t know what’s going on. “I’m like you. I just see what I see – the coughing fit was a week ago, so I assume that was pneumonia also”, Trump said on Fox News. Shortly thereafter, staffers said Hillary Clinton was dehydrated.

On Sunday, her campaign answered questions about Clinton’s health and whereabouts with two short statements, both issued hours after she left the memorial in lower Manhattan.

However, the news of Clinton’s illness has renewed criticism about a perceived lack of transparency.

Given the grueling pace of the presidential campaign trail, it’s a wonder candidates don’t fall ill more often.

The Republican is 70 years old, while Clinton is 68. Late Sunday evening, she canceled a California campaign swing scheduled for early this week.

Mrs. Clinton quickly backtracked, saying she regretted describing a large part of the electorate in such condescending terms.
