I Left the GOP Because ‘I’m a Conservative — George Will
Commentator George Will urged other Republicans to follow his lead and leave the Republican Party because of the rise of Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has finally conceded that he needs more than the bare-bones campaign team that led him to primary success if he’s going to compete against Hilary Clinton.
“It’s very a sellable notion to many delegates”, said Rick Shaftan, a Republican consultant working with the so-called “Free the Delegates” effort. “His record in Wisconsin, every conservative loves it”. In April, he wrote a scathing column lamenting the rise of the billionaire mogul that carried the headline, “If Trump is nominated, the GOP must keep him out of the White House”. He also got out of the race before a single voter cast a ballot, creating separation from other candidates who were outright rejected. Humphrey called Trump “just about the worst candidate you could think of, for the country first and for the party second”. Cruz, Kasich shouldn’t speak at convention without endorsement Colorado GOP Senate race to unseat Dem incumbent is wide open O’Malley gives Trump a nickname: “Chicken Donald” MORE (R-Texas) and Gov. John Kasich of OH to speak at the Republican National Convention without endorsements from both, he told The New York Times.
Will said he changed his voter registration from Republican to “unaffiliated” in his home state of Maryland. Walker, however, appears to be keeping his options open.
Earlier this week, in an act that could be viewed as trying to gain favor with the dump-Trump movement, Walker backed Ryan in calling for convention delegates to be free to vote their conscience. “We’ll see how things go between now and the convention as to what the next steps are”.
And this is not the first time the conservative has broken with Republican Party orthodoxy. He has since distanced himself from that stance.
On the matter of staffing, there’s evidence the Trump campaign is having trouble attracting some political veterans who are reluctant to sign on to such a late-starting and tumultuous campaign. “I would imagine there will be plenty of roller coaster rides between now and the middle of July when the convention is going on”.
“Make sure he loses”, Will said of Trump.
While his is the only name listed in court papers, the suit is filed on behalf of all delegates to both the GOP and Democratic Party conventions. “How did we ever get to this situation where we were handed the most unpopular person in America with Clinton and then were able to trump that with Trump?” One of them was David Blaska, an alternate delegate for the 2nd Congressional District, who also said he won’t vote for Trump or Clinton in November. “We all know that he does not define what conservative means”.
“This is not my party”, Will said during his speech at the event.
“I won’t be there”, said Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL). Represent the will of the people you represent, and you will be voting your conscience. Ex-Congresswoman Enid Mickelson is the chairwoman of the RNC Rules Committee at the convention. He did not confirm if he will vote for either Democratic presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton or a third-party candidate in the upcoming USA presidential election.
In Michigan, 25 delegates are bound to Trump.
What Manafort described as a “new phase” for the campaign a shift from the primaries to the general election was a forced reshuffling of an effort hobbled for weeks by infighting, Trump’s statements about a judge’s ethnicity and a massive fund raising deficit to Clinton’s cash-raising Goliath. In swing-state Iowa, experienced operative Sara Craig says she won’t work for Trump or even support him.
“Donald Trump has gotten 14 million votes, so pack it up”. But it would be highly unusual and nearly certain to set off an even more divisive struggle in the party.
“The Trump people have a lot of keyboard courage, but they’re not writing checks and they’re not out at the doors”, Bishop said. Unruh claims the support of about 400 delegates, though roughly 10 percent of those are alternates.
Anthony Scaramucci, a high-profile NY financier and top Romney bundler who now is helping Trump, said the campaign soon will announce a list of dozens “state chairs and co-chairs” who are organizing teams of fundraisers to collect money for Trump.
