I’m happy at Liverpool – Sturridge

Sturridge is likely to be in the starting line-up to face Augsburg on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie at Anfield which is delicately poised at 0-0.

Liverpool should be well-rested as they enjoyed the weekend off following the first leg having already crashed out of the FA Cup while Augsburg picked up a useful 1-0 win over Hannover on Sunday.

Milner tucked the penalty inside Marwin Hitz’s left-hand post and just out of the reach of the goalkeeper for his second successive spot-kick in home European games.

The charismatic German has struggled for consistency with the squad he inherited from Brendan Rodgers – sitting eighth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s Capital One Cup final against Manchester City.

“We’ll need to be careful but I don’t think we should pay too much attention to that”.

Klopp has so far resisted the urge to spend – signing only Marko Grujic in January and agreeing a free summer deal for Joel Matip – but is expected to do a lot more at the end of the season when he has more time to assess and take stock. It’s astonishing and disappointing, (from) whoever is saying it. It’s very disappointing to hear that from whoever says it, but it’s football and people are entitled to their opinions.

Daniel Sturridge has committed his future to Liverpool by insisting he is determined to bring success to the club.

And finally, Alex Teixiera’s former team-mate at Vasco da Gama and close friend Josef Souza says the Brazilian still dreams of playing for Liverpool despite joining Jiangsu Suning last month. I spent the closing minutes on the edge of my seat, praying that Augsberg failed to find that goal they so badly needed. As a child, you don’t think about those things.

The Reds progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League thanks to James Milner’s early penalty and now the focus turns to the Wembley showdown with City.

“From our first days as owners we have understood that serving as custodians of this incredible institution is a distinct privilege and as such, we have been driven exclusively by the desire to return LFC to the pinnacle of football”, they wrote. Phil Neal played for six years without missing a game in the 1970s and 80s, but he’d have missed a game in the modern era, for certain.

While mindful of that, Klopp may still choose to go with a different frontline as Daniel Sturridge is fit after a long run of injuries.

“Then we can judge their performances”.
