I’m in for the long haul at Sunderland, says Moyes

New Sunderland boss David Moyes has insisted that he was unfairly treated during his time at Manchester United.

However, Moyes claimed that he wasn’t given enough time to prove that he was good enough to manage a club the size of Manchester United, while stopping short at saying Louis van Gaal’s time at Old Trafford proved that it wasn’t easy replacing a legend like Ferguson.

Asked to comment on speculation linking the Belgium internationals with a move to Sunderland in his first media conference, Moyes talked up the transfer targets.

“I think modern management means that more managers will take breaks in their career with the way it is”.

“Managing Manchester United gave me an unbelievable idea of what life’s like at the top…I believe that [the top] is where I can work and where I should be working and where my level is”.

Both men have deep ties to Sunderland and, though he may look to build his backroom team in time, a sense of consistency is desirable at a club that has seen far too much turbulence in recent years.

Marouane Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj and Will Keane are all being lined up for a move to the Stadium of Light this summer, according to the Daily Express.

The Scotsman has recently been appointed as the manager of Sunderland, following Sam Allardyce’s decision to take up the England managerial role.

“We’ve got a couple of offers in for players just now, written offers, and we are just waiting for them to come back”. You have to have a realistic view.

“We have got offers in for players and with a bit of luck we will have replies on those in the next few days”.

Moyes thinks that is partially down to the Football Association’s pursuit of his predecessor Sam Allardyce, but he said the club is in a better position to compete than when he took over at Everton.

“I am game for a fair fight – no problem”, said Moyes.

“We’ll get signings in”.

Next in line among Premier League clubs are Everton at 9/2, 7/1 Swansea City and Stoke City, who can be backed at 12/1.

But it was a one off. Sunderland’s luck could run out next time and should probably stop boasting that the team survived by the skin of their teeth in the last five seasons, although with arch-rivals Newcastle United relegated it made staying up even sweeter. Can I do that right away? No. You’re not going to change it in one transfer window and if we are a bit late in the transfer window we’ll do the best we can.

“We’ve been watching videos of players and we have scouting reports, so we are always on the case”, Stockdale added.

Moyes arrived at the Academy of Light armed with a list of his achievements – a bid, perhaps, to re-establish his credentials.

“If they’re available I’ll try and promote that type of player”.

“I hope we can make progress quickly, but realistically let’s hope there is a small step every year”.
