I think like a batsman on the field: Indian skipper Kohli

We haven’t been able to bat long enough, every time we are batting we are trying to rebuild and then we give away our wickets. I don’t think we executed well enough. This makes one question their roles in the team and if they are suited for the bowling positions they fulfil with neither being a top class fast bowling option and this allows teams time to manoeuvre their bowling easily. “He is growing in this job and I like what I have seen so far in his inventiveness and his use of the bowlers”. Shami opened up the victory vista for India with his three-wicket burst on Day Three which was followed by Umesh to unleashing his own venom and finish off the innings with four straight scalps. “So it was good to get some rest in the evening, and the bowlers’ attitude was very good, all of them voluntarily said, yes, we will bowl, and the spinners took the responsibility”. Unfortunately, apart from Kohli, there weren’t many guys in the Indian team who beat their chest, and then proved their point, upon boarding a flight to down under. That’s what each person coming to Test cricket is looking to do.

“I mean, look at the experience of Virat, Ishant, Umesh and Ashwin”. There was huge pressure on the West Indies’ batsmen to find the same gaps that had existed when they were fielding.

“The inexperience just shows in the manner Darren Sammy leads the T20 side, they have so much experience, or even the ODI side which has a little more experienced”.

After tea, Brathwaite reached his third Test fifty, but the rest of the innings folded in just over 40 minutes.

Joe Root made a classy double century in the first innings of the 2nd Test to help England post a mammoth score of 589.

They have 100-plus Tests between them, and yet yielded only a half-century in two innings. Kohli emphasised on the need to score runs quickly to aim for a win. But it just didn’t come together.

“Marlon, well, I don’t know what space he is in right now and there are a lot of rumours flying about his future”.

Ashwin produced an off-spin bowling masterclass and triggered a second-innings slide that saw the hosts collapse from 88/2 to 132/8 on the fourth and penultimate day.

“I have always said that if a batsman can be successful at Test level he can be successful in any format”.

And talking about the next Test in Jamaica, starting July 30, Bishop said he expected a green wicket at Sabina Park. “It was a very good effort from the bowlers”.

Bishop feels the only way West Indies can hope to make a fightback in the series is by preparing pitches that is helpful to the home side but is not entirely sure that there is a weakness in the Indian side that could be exploited.
