‘I think we were friends’; Michael Strahan opens up about ‘Live’
And yes, things were as bad as the media reports suggested – at least, that’s the way Strahan’s comments make it seem.

First, he never thought he would be here.
For some reason, Ripa took the news very personally and refused to talk to Strahan thereafter, except to throw shade at him live on the air. He added that their working relationship was definitely hard saying they “didn’t really communicate that much”, and eventually the date of his actual exit from the show was moved up four months because it was clear it wasn’t going well between the two co-hosts anymore. That helped me feel like there’s no limit.
It was on this latter program, of course, where his stock truly rose.
It was clear to anyone who watched Live!, but neither Kelly nor Michael have really addressed the downfall of their relationship.
“I’ve been there long enough to understand how she reacts to things”, said Strahan. And for almost four years, it looked like Kelly and Michael were the next big duo to takeover morning television. Have they always hated each other?
“At one point I think we were friends”, Strahan said during an interview with People magazine published Wednesday. I don’t know what happened at the end. “I learned a lot from her, though”. “So, when that came about, it didn’t surprise me at all”.
“The show is going to stick to doing a round robin shuffle of guest co-hosts for the time being. We’re all winning. That’s all that matters to me”. In a statement released to ET a spokesperson said that Ripa has been clear about wanting a partner to host “Live” with, but said that they had made a decision to remove time constraints from their search.
Remember when Ripa brought up Strahan’s divorce?
“I never knew I could accomplish so much”, Strahan, 44, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

He says that he was disappointed that he was seen as the “bad guy” in the split, because he doesn’t want people to think the breakdown in communication was all his fault or that he abandoned the show, and that he wasn’t surprised by Ripa’s reaction.
