FIFA’s ethics committee has asked for sanctions against Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini after finishing investigations into their alleged financial wrongdoing.

He told Swiss TV he ended up “sat between angels singing and the fire of the devil” during the health scare.

He said: “The pressure on me was enormous. At some stage, the body just says, ‘No, enough is enough.’ But if you are strong psychologically, you can resist”.

Federation Internationale de Football Association have opened formal proceedings against Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, the organisation has confirmed.

The Swiss Attorney-General’s Office had said that Platini was somewhere between a witness and am accused person, when news of the payment scandal broke.

Instead, Robert Torres from Guam submitted the report on Blatter and Trinidadian Vanessa Allard compiled the report on Platini.

A decision is expected to be made next month, with the adjudication being chaired by German judge Hans-Joachim Eckert.

Platini has also been suspended from the organisation following the accusations, having received a payment of £1.35m a full nine years after completing contracted work for Blatter.

And while the ban is in place, Platini’s candidacy will not be acknowledged, but Blatter still sees the Frenchman replacing him.

Despite his suspension, Platini is still in the running to succeed Blatter as Federation Internationale de Football Association president when the election is held in February.

While backing Platini, Blatter insisted that the former is an “honest man” and that if he comes back he would surely get elected.
