I Wasn’t Being Held Hostage

And some may have been wondering, why did Chris Christie introduce Donald Trump on Super Tuesday?

He also said the newspapers that called for him to step down were “trying to be relevant, and the only way to do that is to set themselves on fire”. The tweets cited Chris Christie’s pained expression as Donald Trump publicly lauded his own achievements, reiterating his campaign promises over and over to a crowd frothing with anticipation.

The Asbury Park Press, Bridgewater Courier-News, Cherry Hill Courier-Post, East Brunswick Home News Tribune, Vineland Daily Journal and the Morristown Daily Record are the six publications behind the request for Christie’s resignation.

New Jersey in 1993 adopted provisions allowing for recall elections, but residents angry about Christie’s frequent absences from the state and his endorsement of Donald Trump for president have high hurdles to clear if they want to take action to force Christie out.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Was that really Chris Christie, the brusque, take-a-back-seat-to-nobody governor of New Jersey?

“I feel Trump is somebody who divides and does not unite people”, said Carlos Medina, chairman of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, who endorsed Christie in 2013.

The New Jersey papers are not the first news outlets to condemn Christie after he announced his support of Trump. The survey of 694 voters in New Jersey has an error margin of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points. As a presidential candidate, his bullish, pigheaded persona was overshadowed by the very man whom he now endorses – perhaps the only man on earth more bullish and pigheaded than Christie.

“For the good of the state, it’s time for Christie to do his long-neglected constituents a favor and resign as governor”, the papers continued.

When asked about Trump’s interview in which he avoided disavowing former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, Christie said that Trump is “not a bigot”.

On Tuesday, six New Jersey newspapers published a joint editorial calling on Christie to resign, saying he was spending too much time outside the state campaigning for Trump, whom he had earlier trashed. “I don’t see a reason why he can’t do both”, said Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll of Morris County.

The pair joined Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli (R-Somerset) in decrying Christie’s out-of-state campaigning for Trump.

“No, I wasn’t being held hostage”, Christie said. Christie appeared less than jubilant at Trump’s victory rally.
