Rowing added 19 more athletes to three that had previously been announced.

“And of course, athletes and fans should have open access to the results of inspections”, Putin said.

The Lausanne, Switzerland based CAS was not immediately available to comment on when an appeal would be heard, but the court and federations appear likely face a race against the clock to manage a flurry of Russia doping cases before the opening ceremony.

JUDO – The International Judo Federation, which lists Russian President Vladimir Putin as its honorary president, has given the green light for the 11 Russian judo competitors to take part.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) – Better late than never for the Australian women’s eights rowing team at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, even if they’ll have to borrow a boat and oars.

In addition to the ban on Russia’s entire track and field team over doping, seven swimmers, two weightlifters, a wrestler and three rowers have all also been barred.

In some events, such as athletics, weightlifting and cycling, adverse findings are common in many countries, but some nations excel in particular sports: 56 Italian cyclists and 22 Indian weightlifters were caught doping in 2014.

Under the country’s incentive programme, athletes who win an Olympic gold medal will receive RM1 million, silver (RM300,000) and bronze (RM100,000).

FENCING – The International Fencing Federation cleared the 16-member fencing team. Any Russian athlete that did was already being less than honest; knowing about a centralised system of cheating and not reporting arguably makes you a guilty party.

The five were named as Elena Aniushina, Natalia Podolskaya, Alexander Dyachenko, Andrey Kraitor and Alexey Korovashkov.

FISA said that those banned were “not at all considered to have participated in doping” but were being excluded as they “do not meet the conditions established by the International Olympic Committee”. Austria, Germany, Sweden and Iran are in line to receive places instead.

World Sailing said Pavel Sozykin, who had been due to race in the 470 class, would be excluded because he was mentioned in the McLaren report.

The ASOIF statement suggests that it would have been better to act on the interim report of World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren, which alleged a massive cover-up of Russian doping cases, after the games in Rio.

– WRESTLING: The UWW has started a process to validate each of the 17 qualified Russian wrestlers (12 men, 5 women), and requested more information on Russian wrestlers who have been implicated in connection with disappearing positive tests.

“None of the six Russian triathletes that have qualified for 2016 Olympics are included in the McLaren report, nor have any of them served suspensions or bans for failed doping tests”, an ITU statement read. It analyzed the rowers’ global tests and determined that all but six failed to meet the criteria set by the IOC.

After a conference call by its Executive Board on July 24, the IOC urged worldwide federations for winter sports events to suspend preparations for major competitions in Russia.

CANOEING – Five Russian canoe sprint athletes have been banned from competing in Rio by the International Canoe Federation (ICF).

The Russian president has also claimed that any athletics medal won in Rio in the absence of Russian athletes would be worth much less than otherwise.

“All of you here trained long and hard over the last four years to get ready for this big event, and you all deserved the right to defend Russia’s sporting honor”, Putin told his depleted team at the Grand Kremlin Palace.
