IAEA says needs more money to implement Iran nuclear deal

In a Q&A session after global Atomic Energy Agency director general Yukiya Amano addressed the agency’s board, Amano said the agency is still unsure about the scope of Iran’s nuclear military ambitions.

The State Department gave a similar explanation on Monday, and some reporters noted State’s way of saying “access and information”, a change from the week before, when State said the IAEA would have “access”.

The doc, drawn up for a particular Tuesday assembly of the Worldwide Atomic Power Company, says the prices are calculated from the time the deal begins to be carried out. Once officially implemented, the agency will need an annual 9.2 million euros.

But Earnest stressed that the IAEA did not compromise its standards in the way it has agreed to work with the Iranians to inspect Parchin, the location where Iran allegedly tested conventional explosives relevant to its nuclear weapons research more than a decade ago.

The agency “is still working on assessment which will be released in December”, Amano says. “As the IAEA-Iran “road-map” and related separate arrangements concern the implementation of the JCPOA, the US Congress representatives would like to see the details to have the assurance that Iran’s nuclear program will be under strict IAEA verification as claimed by the US administration”, he said.

Both chambers are expected to vote on a resolution in mid-September disapproving of the Iran nuclear deal. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a key appropriator and GOP presidential contender, has threatened to withhold funding for the IAEA until those documents are provided to Congress.
