Jose Mourinho has warned Manchester United’s rivals that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will only get more unsafe after the striker headed home the victor in Sunday’s Community Shield victory over Leicester.

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri is targetting survival in the Premier League despite his side starting the new season as defending champions.

For all of the money spent over the summer, it was local lad Lingard who opened the scoring with a brilliant solo goal to score at the same end as his superb volley in the FA Cup final. We take this seriously; we know it’s pre-season but it’s a prize that you can win, and one you want to win.

“I need to take off the smallest player because we were expecting a lot of long balls. That is new and we won today and hopefully we can win more”.

Ibrahimovic (34) said: “It is my 31st trophy and I’m super happy”. United are the record holders of the shield, winning the trophy 21 times since 1908. They were very strong. But he insisted the Spain global now understands why he was replaced.

Lingard was delighted to start the season with silverware and a win over the Premier League champions, who equalised early in the second half through striker Jamie Vardy.

He told manutd.com that “It feels fantastic to win the first official game” and admitted “I’ve been here a couple of weeks and I get to win my first trophy with United”.

“It feels good. It was the first game we played, for a trophy, and we won”, Ibrahimovic told BT Sport. We worked hard to win the FA Cup and that means you also get to play this game and we wanted to win it. “We begin with a trophy”.

Mourinho denied that he was unhappy with Mata’s display, saying: “He played very well. The only one I can compare is Milan, and I’m very honoured and proud to be here”.

“Mata is fine, he understands what I did”, Mourinho said.
