The situation for Erik Hamren’s side looks complex though as the side are now placed third in Group E and face an uphill task in their final match against Belgium in their last group stage match tomorrow.

According to BBC, Ibrahimovich said: “I am very proud of what I have achieved and will always bring the Swedish flag with me”. “Let’s hope it goes as long as possible”.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ending his worldwide career after the European Championship, meaning he could represent Sweden for the last time on Wednesday. After players such as Kevin de Bruyne and captain Eden Hazard failed to shine against Italy, a convincing win against Sweden would help ease fears that team has underachieved. So for me disappointment doesn’t exist, only proudness.

Ibrahimovic is Sweden’s record scorer with 62 goals and can become its joint sixth most-capped player with 116 appearances on Wednesday.

The Swedes have taken just one point from their two Group F games in France this summer, and anything but a win will see them eliminated from the competition. Its only goal at Euro 2016 was an own goal.

The world champions dominated the game at Parc des Princes and had created several chances when Gomez, starting his first match in the tournament, earned the points with a deflected effort from inside the box on the half-hour.

Qualification is nearly a certainty if Belgium can avoid losing. “Thus far I haven’t really been able to play at my best level”.

Hamren stated: “It is impossible to assess his contribution to Sweden”. “We have one worldwide player that’s really at the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and that’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic”.

“Our greatest star going is a big loss”, Hamren said.

“He has been such an important figure for Swedish football as a whole”.

Ibrahimovic can expect little sympathy from Belgium, at least not on the field.
