ICC deems Sri Lanka spinner Kaushal’s Doosra illegal
Sri Lankan off spinner Tharindu Kaushal is banned from using a variation in his bowling after independent assessments concluded that he bowls it with an illegal action, the global Cricket Council announced Wednesday.

Kaushal’s bowling action was reported by the umpires earlier this month after the conclusion of the third Test match against India in Colombo.
“However, the assessment also revealed that Kaushals Doosra was found to exceed the 15-degree level of tolerance and it should no longer be bowled in worldwide cricket”.
Four doosras from around the wicket were over the 15-degree limit, while five of the 12 from over the wicket were also found to be illegal.
The statement said that if the bowler bowls the “doosra” in a match despite the ban he runs the risk of being reported again.
However, that remains a distinct possibility as even his worst delivery was only found to exceed the 15-degree threshold by six degrees.
Meanwhile, according to ESPNCricinfo, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has said that it is “committed to making every effort to assist Kaushal in taking corrective measures to permit him to bowl without restriction”.
Starting next month, Sri Lanka will host West Indies in a series featuring two Test matches, three one-day internationals and two Twenty20s. The Sri Lanka coaching team would have been prepared to accept the fact that the youngster’s doosra might not be cleared.

The 22-year-old has played in six Tests and has taken 24 wickets. A motion-capture system and two high-speed cameras had been used.
