ICC to discuss India-West Indies second T20 fiasco in Florida

India appeared to be on course to level the series at 1-1 when they reached 15-0 in reply to 143 all out, but heavy rain then intervened.

In the 2nd and final T20I of the series on Sunday (August 28) at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, India were chasing 144 but their innings was halted due to rain after just 2 overs with the score on 15/0.

Despite the prediction of rain later on in the afternoon, the start of the second T20I was delayed by 40 minutes as Star TV, the broadcaster of the game, struggled with a technical failure with the satellite truck.

Spinners Amit Mishra – who replaced seaming all-rounder Stuart Binny – and R. Ashwin picked up five wickets between them.

MS Dhoni’s side were unable to square the series due to the weather in the Sunshine State.

Fellow opener Johnson Charles looked set for another 50 but was dismissed seven runs short by recalled leg-break bowler Mishra who enticed a chance to Ajinkya Rahane at long-on.

West Indies kept losing wickets as Indian bowlers dominated the proceedings and bowled a better length than as compared to last match.

India thus failed to pull off the highest ever successful run chase which still stands at 236 for 6 which the West Indies pulled off against South Africa in January past year in Johannesburg.

Charles showed his brilliance with the willow as he smashed 33-ball 79. The strapping Windies batsman dispatched those balls to the boundary ropes with consummate ease. With spinners looking like making an impact, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni introduced left-armer Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled five dots and conceded only one run in the next over. Ashwin foxed a charging Lendl Simmons (19) with a wide ball and had him stumped.

In the next ball of the following over, Jasprit Bumrah (2-26) had Marlon Samuels (5) caught behind but Kieron Pollard (13) struck a four and a six to take West Indies to 89 for four at the end of 11 overs.

India now return home and will prepare to host New Zealand for three Tests and five One Day Internationals (ODI).
