Ice Cube: ‘I’m not surprised’ by ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Oscar snubs
Ice Cube’s comments on The Wendy Williams Show comes on the heels of #OscarsSoWhite, which was started by those criticizing the Academy Awards choices for Best Actress and Best Actors and other important categories that saw no African American talent getting nominated.

Actors like Will Smith and Idris Elba, who were nominated for Golden Globes, were left off the Oscar nominees list, as were “Creed” actors (except for Sylvester Stallone), Oscar Isaac of “Ex Machina” and “The Force Awakens”, cast members of “Straight Outta Compton” and Samuel L. Jackson of the “Hateful Eight”.
Washington D.C., January 15: There were high Oscar expectations for “Straight Outta Compton”, the film that portrayed the rise of the legendary rap group N.W.A. “It’s the Oscars, they do what they do”, he said when asked whether he was disappointed.
With all of that considered, produce, and actor Ice Cube responded to the trend and the snub his movie received.
The Martian is nominated in seven categories including Best Picture, but Ridley Scott is inexplicably ignored for Best Director.
“I’m not pissed. You know, I’m not surprised”. “The people support the movie”.
Many Twitter users voiced their opinions using the hashtag #Oscarssowhite, which originally debuted a year ago when Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris commented that they were honouring the “best and whitest” at the 2015 ceremony.

The rapper and star of Ride Along 2, opening Friday, says even if the movie doesn’t get a nod, he won’t be too broken up about it. “We have a great movie that we’re proud of, that did over 200 million dollars worldwide and you know, so it will be a little disappointing, but I’ll get over it real quick”, Cube says. “There you go, that’s all the “diversity” you get from us”.
