Ice, snow, sleet possible in parts of northern Alabama
As we head into Thursday, the temperatures at the ground and at cloud level will be pretty close to freezing, so even a slight change will mean the difference between cold rain and wet snow at anytime throughout the day. This will move from west to east across our area Wednesday afternoon with a period of snow that should last through Wednesday evening.

South of I-40, temps are near/above freezing.
FRIDAY: The surface low moves northeast, setting up a whopper of a snow storm for the eastern U.S. Here in Alabama, strong northerly winds will develop, and temperatures should fall during the day, reaching the 30s by mid to late afternoon.
WREG Weather Expert Todd Demers says temperatures will rise this morning and by the time rush hour is over, we should see just rain. More showers will impact the area tomorrow night but there is a potential for heavier rain on Thursday.
Timing: 2:00am, Friday – 12:00pm, Saturday.
Up to a quarter inch of ice was forecast overnight across parts of northern Arkansas overnight into Wednesday morning and forecasters said chances were increasing for freezing rain in central Arkansas as well.
NEXT WEEK: Still seeing evidence of rain by Monday night or Tuesday, and another pop of colder air by Wednesday. Some of the highest peaks will see over a foot or more.
