We’ve got keep trying to figure out whatever it is we have to do to get him right.

St. Louis is 39-17 in Adam Wainwright’s last 56 home starts. But reliever Trevor Rosenthal came on in the seventh and hit Giancarlo Stanton with the bases loaded to drive in a run, then gave up a two-run single, making it the third time he’s allowed an earned run in his last five outings. He hopes for better success than he found Sunday, when he lasted only four innings in a 7-3 win over Cincinnati, giving up seven hits and three runs. He almost had another on an apparent infield single, but the safe call was overturned on a challenge by the Cardinals. Veteran third baseman Martin Prado has two hits in five career at-bats against the right-hander with no walks and no strikeouts. “I thought the fans were awesome right there, respectful”. “From that point on we knew we’ve got to find a way to score runs”. Stephen Piscotty chased both home with a double to left. The only current Cardinal who has had a chance to face the lefty is Jedd Gyorko, who is 0-for-1 against him with no walks. “Wacha had just gotten hit, so I figured he might not be moving as well as he normally does”.

“The start I had was a disaster, so it’s cool to be back pitching pretty good again and not the laughingstock of the baseball world anymore”, Wainwright said. “Mathis’ bunt was heads up”. They maintained their 61/2-game lead over Detroit in the AL Central.

Miguel Rojas drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth for the Marlins, who have won four straight, coming from behind in the last three. Take St. Louis over Miami for another Best Bet victor.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said, “Obviously, [Saturday], we don’t really do anything”. Hechavarria had two of the Marlins’ three hits.

He should be back in the lineup on Sunday when Miami starts LHP Adam Conley.

That ended a day for Conley that seemed destined for a better personal result.

Before the bullpen mangled the situation, the Cardinals belted four dingers-two of which were hit by Tommy Pham in a career-high four-RBI day. Jhonny Peralta hit his fifth homer to finish the scoring in the fifth inning Saturday.

“As far as my stuff, I think that’s about as good as it’s been all year”.

“I try to put everything on an even playing field”, Conley said. The Marlins rallied to win after trailing past the seventh inning for only the second time in 35 such situations this season. Former Cardinal farmhand Kyle Barraclough (5-2) pitched 1 2/3 ideal innings, fanning three, to earn the win. That provided the opportunity for the offense to regain traction.

The frustrating thing about the Cubs lead is that it should be much smaller as the Cardinals have missed plenty of opportunities to shave off a game or two off of the lead, most notably missing out on the opportunity to shave it to at least six games over this past weekend.

He briefly had No. 2,993 in his grasp on an infield single to shortstop in the third, but it was overturned.
