Ichiro’s 4191st hit overall ties Cobb’s total, Marlins fall
Ichiro Suzuki singled in the first inning Saturday night for his 4,192nd career hit in the major leagues and Japan, passing Ty Cobb’s total that ranks second in major league history.

Ichiro Suzuki’s slashing playing style has often been compared to that of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb’s, and on Friday they had something else in common, 4,191 hits in top-flight professional baseball.
“Forever people have been talking about Pete Rose and Ty Cobb and now Ichiro Suzuki will be mentioned in that same breath”. The standing ovation on the road was more than he’d anticipated.
Ichiro was signed to be a reserve outfielder for the Marlins. Carpenter’s bunt single broke a scoreless tie in the fifth. Rookie Stephen Piscotty had three hits and scored twice, helping the Cardinals win their eighth out of 10.
The Marlins (46-70) didn’t have many other highlights against the Cardinals (75-41), who gave their sellout crowd much more to cheer about while putting themselves in position to sweep the three-game series. Garcia then hit Derek Dietrich with a pitch and walked Casey McGehee, bringing Rosenthal from the bullpen. He led off the second with a single to right field, raced to third on another single to right by Cole Gillespie and scored on a balk by Lackey.
“His grave is here, and so it definitely became a special place for me tonight”, Suzuki added.
“You’ve always got to anticipate he’s going to swing at 3-0”, Hand said. He said he was lacking mobility. He was expected to miss the season when he was injured May 26.
In Kansas City, Eric Hosmer hit a go-ahead two-run homer, Danny Duffy settled down after a wild start and the Royals rallied past Los Angeles.

In Atlanta, Julio Teheran pitched six strong innings, Cameron Maybin drove in two runs and the Braves edged Arizona. All 17 starts he has made at Busch Stadium since he was traded last year have qualified as quality.
