Ichiro’s march to 3000 Major League Baseball hits by the numbers
Ichiro Suzuki tripled off the wall off Rusin for his 3,000th career hit in the major leagues, becoming the 30th player to reach the milestone as the Miami Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 10-7 Sunday.

Public broadcaster NHK sent a news flash immediately after the 42-year-old Miami Marlins centre fielder blasted a triple in the seventh inning against the Colorado Rockies as the Marlins won 10-7 on Sunday in Denver.
That hit, a triple, made the 42-year-old the first player from Japan to log 3,000 career hits, and the team poured out of the dugout to congratulate him at third base for this accomplishment. Fifteen years later, Suzuki has smashed those doubts in a record-breaking manner: He is now the 30th Major League Baseball player to reach 3,000 career hits, making him the first player of Asian descent to reach this milestone.
“Obviously, I wanted to see it go over the fence, ” Ichiro said.
Through his interpreter, Ichiro said more than the 3,000 hits itself, when he saw his teammates rush onto the field with joy and the fans cheering for him is what makes it so great to play baseball.
Clayton Kershaw (back) resumed baseball activities with a game of catch as he continued his attempt to return to the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season.
“I was fortunate to have both the pleasure of competing against him and the honor of playing alongside him”.
Stanton’s 23rd homer was the longest in the major leagues this season and the longest in Coors Field history.
Rose had 3,353 hits after he turned 27.
On Sept. 18, 2009, Suzuki hit his first walk-off home run, a two-run, two-out shot against Mariano Rivera, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 Mariners win (his 2,014th career hit).
7- The number of years Ichiro was the Major League Baseball hit leader, including five consecutive seasons from 2006-2010.
Suzuki struck out in the first inning, hit a comebacker in the third and grounded out to short in the fourth.
“I want to pay tribute to him for setting the shining record in Japanese and US baseball”, Suga said. The 6-foot-2 pitcher reached high to get the ball before it went up the middle and, after dropping the transfer, quickly gathered it to barely throw out the speedy Suzuki.
“I know my record will be criticized”, Suzuki said on June 15 this year, when the total number of hits in his professional career in Japan and the United States surpassed former slugger Pete Rose’s all-time major league record of 4,256. The most games he had played in a season in Japan was 135. Rodriguez is one of 10 players to win three MVP awards and one of just six to win multiple MVP awards with the Yankees. Suzuki broke his own mark by hitting in 27 straight games in 2009. However, the Rockies first comeback attempt did not last long as the Marlins plated four more runs in the fourth inning, the first two on a double by Martin Prado scoring Adeiny Hechaverria and Dee Gordon. Miami acquired Cervenka from Atlanta for two minor league players on Saturday.

“There’s no rhyme or reason why guys you think you should have success off shut you down, and the elite pitchers, you have success against”, Giants manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle.
