The 103rd Grey Cup game is sold out.

And in the second quarter, the West Division champions kept coming.

But their chainsaw wasn’t welcome at Investors Group Field, where the second-year Redblacks were to take on the Edmonton Eskimos on Sunday in the CFL championship game.

Edmonton was up 17-16 at half time following an Akeem Shavers two-yard touchdown reception with 12 seconds left on the game clock.

After deliberating for a bit, Jones tossed the challenge flag. “Why won’t they let us do our celebrations?” one man told CTV Ottawa. “It has just been tremendous this year, and I’m blessed and thankful to be here and be part of this organization and to help them get as far as we got this year”. “So that’s how it transpired”.

Ottawa also led the CFL in offensive yards (386.3 per game) and passing yards (322.6) while also scoring a league-best 18 rushing touchdowns.

Before the 2014 season, the CFL became the first football league to make pass interference subject to video replay review.

Bar manager Budameir says it was different a year ago when Vancouver hosted the Grey Cup. “Their whole team is going to play four quarters; we know that by the way they approach games”. “Making our adjustments on the sideline and at halftime are going to be critical”.

The hard work is done and players are itching to get on with it after talking the talk for the past five days. “We’ve came a long ways in a year”. “And it’s on us to make sure that happens”. That meant the two cornerbacks did not necessarily start on the outside edge of Edmonton’s defence for most of the first quarter, although the Esks started to change up their coverage in the second quarter. Despite having the ball for 10 minutes in the third quarter, Edmonton was outscored 3-1 as Ottawa took a 19-18 advantage into the fourth.

Ottawa got the ball back and chose to punt with around two minutes left…

“At the end of the day, you just have to play the game and you have to play the game on the field”.

Allowing teams to use their own balls on offence gives quarterbacks a chance to play with balls that are familiar to them, as long as they meet standards. Reilly also ran for 66 yards.

Ottawa regained the lead in the third on Chris Milo’s 33-yard field goal.

Patrick Lavoie and Ernest Jackson caught touchdown passes from the 40-year-old Burris, who completed 22 of 29 attempts for 220 yards. For many, the Grey Cup is 50 per cent about football, 50 per cent about booze and the Spirit of Edmonton is usually the place to be. Johnson said. “We got one game and one job and that’s to win”. “It hurts a lot”.
