A woman has given her twin sister the ultimate gift – by carrying her baby to term after breast cancer stole her opportunity to have another child.
She has been cancer free for six years, but her yearning for a second child to complete her family persisted. Dawn had two boys of her own, Jake, 7, and Ashton, 3, before becoming surrogate mum to her nephew Hudson.
Allison posted a thank you note to Dawn in Facebook: “I have said this before, but I have to say it again”. Allison wrote. “You have given us not just the fulfillment of a wish we’ve had for the last six years, but a whole new life, and a family of four we thought we’d never have”. She kept the baby’s sex a secret, even managing to hide a “Shhh…It’s a boy!” sign during a maternity photo shoot.
The women have always “been very close” and “live right down the block from each other”, their dad, Carmine Ardolino told the Daily News.
She finished the post: “Dawn, we thank you for everything from the bottom of our hearts. You deserve a medal of courage, of compassion, and of selflessness”.
“This is a miracle baby”, he said.
