In the middle of downtown Houston, his friends all stopped their cars at once on I-45, blocking all four lanes. Vidal Valladares Navas, 24, said that the particular stretch of highway was particularly meaningful for him, as it was where he took his girlfriend (now fiancee), 23-year-old Michelle Wycoff, on their second date.

“I picked her up from the house and everybody followed me”, said Valladares. Both Valladares and Wycoff say they were surprised about the charges.

His friends then blocked the traffic with their cars while he popped the question.

This video has since gone viral online, with the vast majority of people criticizing Valladares for being selfish and endangering people’s lives with his proposal stunt.

“When you shut down one of the biggest and busiest freeways in the entire country (I45) and you ask your girl if she wants to marry u, That moment is priceless love u #shesaidyes.” the caption said. “Something that she will always remember”, Valladares Navas said.

Houston police are investigating a romantic gesture that might have had deadly consequences.

“Besides being illegal it is incredibly unsafe and we would discourage anyone from taking such unnecessary risk which could result in injury to themselves or others”, Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Raquelle Lewis said.

Now, here’s the kicker: Harris County District Clerk records show that Valladares got divorced in June, after a two-year marriage. He said he separated from his wife after only eight months of marriage. That wasn’t my intention in the beginning.
