Idris Elba: I’m too old to play James Bond

The Luther star, 43, who has been among the favourites to play 007, has claimed that he is “too old” for the part. “But everywhere I go people want that to happen”.

Producer Barbara Broccoli is working on two other films first so she doesn’t have time for the suave spy’s next motion picture just yet, and she is said to be keen to use the time to try to tempt Daniel Craig into reprising his role as the titular character for the fifth time.

“If I’m really honest man, I think I’m too old for that”, he said.

Craig was already 47 years old when his last James Bond movie “Spectre” was shown late last year.

Fans of Aidan Turner have been given a bit of a boost today, with Idris Elba suggesting he won’t be the chap to succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

With news that the next Bond film may not be released until late 2018, Elba would be 45 when he took on the role – the same age as Roger Moore when he became the oldest actor to take on 007 in 1973’s Live And Let Die. About four years ago he said Idris Elba would be a great Bond, and then it started to creep.

The successor to Daniel Craig would be under a lot of scrutinies particularly from the British Board Film Classification (BBFC) since the actor’s last film as James Bond, “Spectre“, shown past year, became the most complained about film of 2015.

Tom Hiddleston, who is thought to be in the running for the role, also dismissed the possibility last month.

The complainants cited torture in the film which they found to be too distressing.
