Idris Elba, who was added to the “Star Trek Beyond” cast back in March, recently spoke to MTV about his character in the film.
Elba is now doing the press rounds for the release of his new film “Beasts of No Nation”, the first Netflix film and one that is gaining Oscar contention.
The British actor explained the latest Star Trek sequel didn’t rely heavily on special effects while filming there: “I can’t tell you too much, but Vancouver is handsome and we’re utilizing the backdrop, the mountains and you know, it’s a great place to shoot as well”.
Looking for a “vertical city” to stand in for a futuristic world, actors and filmmakers involved in “Star Trek Beyond” ended up among the gleaming towers of Dubai. “I’ve always wanted to do good work and I think all of us up here agree on that…for me there is another undercurrent in this film which is to truly honor my dear friend and carry on the legacy that he worked so hard to create”. Elba is a Golden Globe nominee and is now in the Oscar conversation for his supporting role in “Beasts of No Nation”. “It’s tough work, but I’m looking forward to people seeing this film”. He is scheduled to appear in “Bastille Day”, “Finding Dory” and “The Jungle Book”.
The cast and crew of Star Trek Beyond, including Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and newcomer Idris Elba, has arrived in Dubai, where they will spend the next two weeks filming on location.
