Leonardo DiCaprio won his first-ever Screen Actors Guild award for his role in The Revenant.

The event was being closely watched as Hollywood reels from a fierce backlash over the Academy Awards nominations, in which all the acting nominees were white.

Idris Elba won two Screen Actors Guild Awards in Saturday’s ceremony. She’s 0-3 with SAG Award noms to date.

At SAG, the newspaper drama “Spotlight“, badly in need of some Oscar momentum, took the top honor.

Winners Saturday night included black actors Uzo Aduba, Queen Latifah, Viola Davis and Idris Elba for their critically acclaimed work in TV and film. “We made a film about real people and real lives”. Right, Viola Davis holds the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role in “How to Get Away With Murder“.

But the SAG Awards include television shows and movies, while the Oscar categories are focused only on films.

Alicia Vikander’s emotional performance in The Danish Girl – a film about a man transitioning into a woman – earned her the gong for Most Outstanding Performance by an actress in a supporting role.

“Downtown Abbey” won the drama series cast award for the second year in a row.

“I play Mora, she’s very entitled, she has a lot of money”, said Tambot. Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” was named best ensemble cast in a comedy series for the second straight year.

Latifah thanked her creative partner Shakim Compere at Flavor Unit as well as HBO and the cast of Bessie.

The Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role award was taken by Brie Larson for her role of a fiercely protective mother in “Room“.

And when Orange is the New Black took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, co-star Laura Prepon couldn’t help but point out the obvious in her acceptance speech: “Look at this stage”. Also, Kevin Spacey won for male actor in a drama series for his turn as bisexual U.S. President Frank Underwood in House of Cards. The two joined forces to present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Carol Burnett (and knocked DiCaprio down a few pegs with a hilarious bit at his expense).
