Idris, Uzo, Queen Latifah & More: Black Excellence At The SAG Awards
A number of diverse shows portraying LGBT characters picked up Screen Actors Guild awards last night.

In the acting honours, Leonardo DiCaprio won for best actor award for his portrayal of fur trapper Hugh Glass in the revenge thriller The Revenant.
But the SAG awards celebrated and honoured black actors. Aduba, has won two Emmys and been nominated for two Golden Globes for the same role.
Of all the acting categories, Best Supporting Actress was the most open with Rooney Mara (Carol), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), Helen Mirren (Trumbo), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), and Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs) all potential winners.
See more photos from SAG Awards after-parties below. “The Spotlight” won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the SAG Awards. Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” was named best ensemble cast in a comedy series for the second straight year.
While the Academy Awards remain enveloped in a crisis over the diversity of its nominees, the 22nd annual SAG Awards on Saturday presented a stark antidote to the rancor that has overwhelmed Hollywood’s awards season. He’d already accepted statues for his best supporting actor role in the Netflix dramatic film “Beasts of No Nation”, and his lead actor role in the BBC miniseries “Luther“.
Idris Elba stole the show at SAG Awards 2016 by winning not one, but two awards for Beasts of No Nation and Luther. Orange star Uzo Aduba won best comedy series actress for playing kooky inmate Crazy Eyes, while Queen Latifah won best actress in a TV miniseries for playing blues singer Bessie Smith in HBO’s Bessie.
The actor, who was snubbed for an Oscar nomination this year, took home two gongs at the ceremony before taking a swipe at the contraversy.

Other big winners included Brie Larson for Room (Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture) and Leonardio DiCaprio for The Revenant (Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture). Kevin Spacey won his second SAG Award for “House of Cards“.
“Diversity is not a trending topic”, she said.

She added: ‘So regardless of what is going on with the Academy, regardless of what is going on in Hollywood, they will find a way to be excellent.
