U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton released tax records showing she paid a federal tax rate of 34.2 percent a year ago, while Republican candidate Donald Trump is undergoing increasing pressure to make his own financial disclosure.

But it is rare for a Republican to campaign in the Nutmeg State, though many Trump supporters in attendance in Fairfield were glad he did.

Still, campaigning in CT is raising eyebrows among many Republicans nervous about Trump’s slipping poll numbers in a series of key swing states and battlegrounds – and even some usual GOP turf. In the most recent CNN/ORC poll, conducted July 29 to 31, Clinton was ahead on the economy question, 50% to 48%. There was no similar outrage when Hillary Clinton called Trump an ISIS recruiter.
However, the IRS itself has said that does not prevent him releasing the returns.
While Trump has galvanized white, blue-collar men in a way not seen in decades, this demographic is narrow, and analysts said now Trump needs to appeal to a broader audience.
Trump scheduled a speech in Warren, Ohio, on Monday that will focus on how he would handle the threat posed by Islamic State. But Manafort said Trump wasn’t walking away from his past pledges. It’s a part of the country where he has said he can compete with Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The question remains whether Trump can reverse this image as the clock ticks toward the November elections, when Americans will cast their ballots for the next USA president.
The Republican nominee’s decision to hold an event in CT also raised eyebrows, as it is a state where he has a long-shot of being victorious. It was Bush’s administration that negotiated the 2009 agreement that called for the withdrawal of all US forces from Iraq by December 31, 2011.
The road to 270 electoral votes – the threshold to clinch the presidency – increasingly looks to be a series of uphill climbs and dead ends for Trump in the usual collection of most competitive states.
“The Republicans have a tougher path – not my fault”, he said. They became public on Tuesday and showed her interacting with lobbyists, political and Clinton Foundation donors and business interests while serving as secretary of state.
