If you have an external hard drive

A Microsoft executive hints that developers may get their hands on this soon.

Speaking to Gamespot, project lead of the upcoming Xbox One Dashboard redesign Richard Irving explained, “You need an external hard-drive specifically for DVR because we want to keep the [storage] paths optimized between playing games and watching TV”.

Microsoft has now limited support for first party titles only which cover games that Microsoft is either publishing or developing itself. When Backwards Compatibility finally becomes an official part of Xbox One in November, perhaps we’ll see them on the list.

Xbox One consoles are equipped with a 500 GB hard drive, which can typically store around 75 hours of HD video. When enabled, the device’s “instant on” feature will let users to record shows when they aren’t at home. Not every gamer will want older titles on their new generation console, but considering the indie games, it’s clear there will be great AAA Xbox 360 games coming for free to Xbox One going forward.

Other games heading to the preview program include Rivals of Aether, and Chucklefish’s Starbound will also be making its console debut on the platform. Using the Xbox app in Windows 10, all recorded TV shows can be streamed to Windows 10 devices.

While the DVR feature sounds like an awesome new addition to the Xbox One’s bag of tricks, it will take an initial investment to achieve.

Coming November 2015. Over 100 games.

The collector’s edition of Halo 5: Guardians is also included in the package, and this comes with two special DLC packs, along with Agent Locke’s Spartan armor set that you can use during gameplay. The Crackdown team still needs to demonstrate that their solution can scale and perform under pressure, but assuming that it can, we could be seeing the beginning of a new model of game development.
